BYREDO Autumn – Winter 2019/2020

On the occasion of the Autumn Winter 2019–20 season, Byredo presents an immersive installation by creative director Ben Gorham at the Galerie Italienne during Paris Fashion Week. Entitled ‘Rare Byrds of a Feather’, this three-part exhibition celebrates Byredo’s innate exoticism by uniting elements of Indian and Swedish birdwatching traditions inherent to Gorham’s unique cultural narrative.

In homage to Salim Ali, the legendary Birdman of India, a series of photographs by Bharat Sikka documenting the Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary in Goa, India, form the backdrop for a new collection of Byredo leather goods, as Ali himself inspires a historical museum-style display of birdwatching paraphernalia. Echoing the industrial context of previous Byredo installations, the exhibition’s exposed scaffolding and raw scenography by Paris design bureau Services Généraux acts as a neutral frame for the project’s lavish subject matter.
